Plums

Plums aren’t just for drying into prunes and sneaking into grandpa’s oatmeal so his colon can throw a surprise party. As much as grandma loves to talk about his BMs, I want to talk about plum’s other health benefits, particularly in managing blood pressure. Plums are rich in potassium, vital for heart function, but what’s fascinating is their impact on “intracellular calcium concentration.” This helps relax blood vessels, similar to how calcium channel blockers work, naturally lowering blood pressure. This effect is attributed to the high neochlorogenic acid content in prunes. In studies, participants who drank 4 ounces of prune juice daily for 2 months saw a 5-10 point reduction in systolic blood pressure. While this is more than the typical 2-ounce serving of our Wolf Berry juice blend, combining it with the other berries in this blend should produce similar benefits.
