The darker the berry, the sweeter the… uhh, Anthocyanins. The best sources of Anthocyanins are blackberries, blueberries, and Aronia berries (also known as Black chokeberries). Anthocyanins are little miracle workers that encourage your body to produce more Nitric Oxide, which relaxes blood vessels and lowers blood pressure. In a study, type 2 diabetics who consumed dried blueberry powder for 7 days experienced an average 5-point drop in systolic blood pressure. This was equivalent to drinking about 5 ounces of blueberry juice. However, the increase in nitric oxide was significantly higher with fresh blueberries, like those in the Wolf Berry blend. So, while you’re drinking less, you’re getting a more potent source daily, not just for a week. Over time, this enhances endothelial function (the inner lining of your blood vessels), leading to lower blood pressure. So, although Anthocyanins might sound like an infestation of crotch-mites, they’re actually something you want plenty of, and the blueberries and Aronia berries in your red drink are an excellent source.
